Jamf Connect, NoMAD & NoMAD Login – Mike VanDelinder, Jamf
This presentation will give a summary of open source (NoMAD & NoMAD Login) and comparison with commercial product (Jamf Connect) then give an in-depth on managing identity and access on Mac systems. Managing identity and access to managed resources on a Mac traditionally required joining to internal directories on private networks, yet that model has provided numerous challenges when supporting a modern, mobile user base. With Jamf Connect, a new series of applications from Jamf, IT teams are able to bring the single sign-on experience of their cloud identity provider to the account provisioning and login process of a managed Mac. We’ll take a look at each of these applications and how they’re able to benefit organizations looking to streamline Mac setup.
About Jamf Connect
While NoMAD and Jamf Connect can do some similar functions, the choice between the two primarily comes down to using other identity providers for authentication with Jamf Connect or using Active Directory for authentication with NoMAD. Similar to NoMAD and Jamf Connect, NoMAD Login authenticates users to Active Directory whereas Jamf Connect authenticates directly to your other identity providers like Okta tenant.
About NoMAD
NoMAD can be a great tool to help users bound to Active Directory, its main purpose is to help move your Macs off binding to AD while still getting all of the functionality. Keep your users on local accounts and let NoMAD manage their interaction with AD by allowing them to sign in with their AD account to get Kerberos tickets, certificates for 802.1X connections and other functions without having to have a mobile account.
About NoMAD Login
NoMAD Login provides Active Directory [AD] login authentication with out binding system to AD. It provides local user creation, demobilization of cached AD mobile accounts, first login FileVault with MDM key escrow support and customizable login UI.
