22 Mar Microsoft Outlook for Mac Switching to Weekly Releases
Microsoft has announced that starting from March 21, 2023, updates for Outlook for Mac will be released on a weekly basis, while other core Office apps such as Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word will remain on the monthly update schedule. The Suite installer that includes all applications will also only be updated on the monthly schedule. Only new features and bug fixes will be included in the weekly Outlook updates, while security patches will still be delivered in the monthly release.
The existing FWLink link for Outlook will always point to the latest weekly release, while a new FWLink will point to the monthly release.
For example, see the following web page and the “Outlook 365/2021/2019 Standalone Installer” row. https://macadmins.software/
And here is an example of the FWLink: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=525137
The Updater packages for each application will also be getting their own FWLinks, making it easier for automation.
FWLink stands for “Framework Link” and is a type of URL that Microsoft uses to provide stable, unchanging links to software downloads and updates. These links are used to provide a consistent and reliable way to access software downloads and updates, and they remain the same even when new versions of the software are released. This is useful for software developers and IT professionals who need to automate software updates or deploy software to large numbers of computers, as they can use the FWLink to ensure that they are always downloading the latest version of the software. Microsoft is interested in feedback on this the new update schedule.
