Senior Systems Administrator
This Senior Systems Administrator position on the Marriott Library’s Client Platform Services team plays a critical role in making technology accessible to a diverse set of users. Students, staff, and faculty across the University will rely on the server & client infrastructure that we design, configure, and build. The Marriott Library is a leader in implementing innovative client services for students on our campus and a well-known contributor of popular open-source solutions for Apple technology management & configuration. We have a long history of presenting and sharing IT technologies & solutions with our campus and the greater community. While performing general systems administration duties (including distributing software, updating operating systems, and configuring changes to client systems), you will innovate and collaborate with other IT professionals and colleagues throughout the organization.

This position is considered Category I: Mandatory and required on-campus or health care facilities to support on-site operations. Employees hired into this category will be required to be physically located at Marriott Library if they are healthy and without COVID-19 symptoms.
Review, create and maintain support documentation, including documentation of operational processes & procedures. Monitor, audit, maintain and troubleshoot client & server systems software or hardware issues, particularly advanced issues that have been escalated. Improve efficiency through automation, leveraging scripting or programming through tools like AppleScript, Bash, Python, Swift, and others. Investigate new technology to implement in our infrastructure for system improvements and life cycle planning. This role requires working both independently, and also within a team, as well as communicating effectively with people from all backgrounds and explaining technical information to users in a way they can understand. As a senior systems administrator, the candidate is expected to work with very little supervision and be able to mentor other systems administrators in the team. Working in our environment requires adapting to changing needs and priorities while using interpersonal skills to maintain positive relationships.

Require a bachelor’s degree in a related area, or equivalency, and 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
- In-depth experience with Apple operating systems (macOS, iOS, ipadOS & tvOS)
- In-depth experience with Jamf Pro or other client systems management and/or mobile device management software
- Experience with scripting and programming languages like Bash, Python, Swift implementation in client management
- Experience with installing new software, updates to client systems, and troubleshooting technical issues.
- Experience with Apple installer package technologies, creation, and automation (Patch, AutoPkg)
- Experience with implementing and administering Linux/macOS based servers & client systems
- Familiarity with virtual machine technologies (vSphere, ESXi, Hyper-V, VMWare Workstation, KVM)
- Familiarity with developing and administering desktop and/or web (Apache) & database servers (MySQL)
