The University of Utah, MacAdmins Meeting is held monthly virtually on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11 AM Mountain Time. Presentations cover Apple technology and integration in a heterogeneous university enterprise environment. This month’s meeting will be held on Wed, November 20th, 2024 at 11 AM MT and we will provide live broadcasts and archives that will be made available 2-3 days after the meeting.  


AppleCare+ for Schools – Tara Peoples, Apple


This presentation will provide an overview of AppleCare+ options tailored for campus environments, departmental needs, and enterprise-level institutions. Attendees will learn about the various AppleCare+ plans available, including coverage for devices such as MacBooks, iPads, iPhones, and other Apple hardware, and how these options align with the specific requirements of educational and corporate settings.

About Tara Peoples

Tara Peoples is the AppleCare Business Develop Manager who works closely with Apple’s Education Sales Teams including Campus Stores. They aim to ensure our customers and education sales teams understand the AppleCare offerings designed for Apple’s Education Customers. They have been with Apple for over 4.5 years. My background includes sales in services, software, and technology devices within enterprise, healthcare, and education.  I have also worked at two Winter Olympics including the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.  

 

What’s New with Microsoft Enterprise SSO – Michael Epping, Microsoft


Attend our upcoming presentation led by Michael Epping, Senior Product Manager at Microsoft Security CxE, where we will delve into the latest advancements in the Microsoft Enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO) Extension. This session will provide an overview of Microsoft Entra, detailing its comprehensive product family, including Entra ID and Verified ID. We will explore the process to general availability for the Microsoft Enterprise SSO Extension, which launched on April 10, 2023. This includes coverage of its deployment impact on macOS and iOS, challenges faced, and improvements made since release.



Attendees will gain valuable knowledge of troubleshooting and how to resolve common SSO issues such as TLS inspection and effective log analysis techniques. The presentation will highlight the work done with key partners like Jamf and VMware to enhance MDM integration and user experience, including improvements made to Jamf Connect’s interaction with Conditional Access. Looking ahead, Michael will preview future features, such as Platform SSO, enhancements coming with macOS Sonoma, and the upcoming shared device mode for iOS.

About Michael Epping

Michael Epping is a Senior Product Manager in Microsoft’s Azure AD Engineering team. He is part of the customer experience team and his role is accelerating the adoption of cloud services across enterprise customers. Michael helps customers deploy Azure AD features and capabilities via long-term engagements that can last years, as well as working within the engineering organization as an advocate on behalf of those customers. Michael has more than 9 years of experience working with customers to deploy Microsoft products like Azure AD, Intune, and Office 365. He’s spoken at various industry events, such as BSides and The Experts Conference.

Unified System Logs – Finding the Root Cause – Bryce Carson, Addigy


This presentation will dive into the world of macOS logging, providing a comprehensive guide for MacAdmins. We’ll explore the evolution of logging from traditional Unix files to the modern Unified Logging System. You’ll learn how to leverage powerful tools like the Console app and the log command line to analyze and troubleshoot device issues effectively. We’ll also discuss strategies for collaborating with support teams by providing detailed and relevant log information.

Additionally, the session will cover tips for filtering logs, debugging processes, and capturing diagnostic information for various Apple devices. By the end of this session, you’ll have a solid understanding of Mac OS logging and be equipped to tackle complex troubleshooting scenarios with confidence.

About Bryce Carlson

Bryce has been in the Apple management space since 2011 and worked in the K-12 and Higher Education space before moving on to Apple MDM vendors. He is a Senior Product Manager at Addigy for the MDM stack and Microsoft integrations. His favorite Mac is the iMac G4 17″.
