The University of Utah, MacAdmins Meeting is held monthly virtually on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11 AM Mountain Time. Presentations cover Apple technology and integration in a heterogeneous university enterprise environment. This month’s meeting will be held on Wed, January 17th, 2024 at 11 AM MT and we will provide live broadcasts and archives that will be made available 2-3 days after the meeting.

 

Setup your Mac with SYM-Helper – Dan K. Snelson, The Church of LDS


In this upcoming presentation, Dan Snelson, a Senior System Engineer from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will guide participants through the efficient and streamlined process of Mac user onboarding using the powerful tool, Set up Your Mac using the “SYM-Helper” application. SYM-Helper acts as a dedicated macOS application tailored for Mac administrators seeking efficient deployment of the extensive Set up Your Mac script, but simplifying complexities or in-depth knowledge of Jamf Pro APIs.

Developed to enhance the user experience and streamline the deployment process, SYM-Helper serves as a valuable tool for MacAdmins looking to optimize the onboarding experience for macOS systems. The presentation kicks off with an overview of essential components in the Mac onboarding toolkit, such as swiftDialog, an open-source utility for user interactions, and Set up Your Mac, laying the foundation for the subsequent deep dive into the capabilities of SYM-Helper. Dan will delve into the intricacies of customization, highlighting the creation of default configurations, and building required, recommended, and complete configurations based on diverse user needs.

The presentation will conclude with a comparative analysis, pitting Set up Your Mac against Jamf Pro macOS Onboarding, allowing participants to make informed decisions based on organizational needs.

App Auto-Patch – Robert Schroeder

Robert Schroeder is a seasoned Mac Engineer with a rich background in Information Technology, deeply rooted in the Education, Enterprise, Corporate, and MSP spaces. Beginning their IT career in 2006, Robert initially honed their skills as a Windows Systems Admin and SQL Database Admin before transitioning to managing Apple computers and devices in 2013. Throughout their career, Robert has been recognized for their innovative approach to Mac management, particularly in automating solutions to elevate the end-user experience. Their expertise lies in seamlessly integrating user needs with technological advancements, thereby enhancing both efficiency and satisfaction.

Currently, as a Senior Mac Engineer II, Robert continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in Mac systems management. Their work not only benefits their immediate organization but also contributes to broader advancements in the IT community.

Information will be emailed via a campus internal list, but if you are external and want to attend the meeting, please use the contact us form to receive details. Else, the archive of the meeting will be available 2-3 days after the live meeting.

  • Waiting Room When joining the meeting you will be placed in the Waiting Room by default and the hosts will give you access to the live meeting.
